Every year on dad's birthday and father's day my dad always chooses the yummiest cake for my mom to bake up. and we are all SO glad he does. I mean just look:

1/2 c. Butter
1/4 c. Whipping cream
1 C\c. Firmly packaged light brown sugar
3/4 c. pecans, coarsely chopped
1 pkg. devil's food cake mix with pudding
1 1/4 c. water
1/3 c. oil
1 3/4 c. whipping cream
1/4 c. powdered sugar
1/4 tsp. vanilla
whole pecans, for garnish
chocolate curls, for garnish.
Preheat oven to 325. In a small heavy saucepan, combine butter, 1/4 c whipping cream and brown sugar. Cook over low heat just until the butter melts, stirring occasionally. Pour into two round cake pans; sprinkle evenly with chopped pecans. In a large bowl, combine cake mix, water, oil and eggs and low speed until moistened. Then beat 2 minutes at highest speed. Carefully spoon batter over pecan mixture. Back at 325 for 35 to 40 minutes (do not over bake or the pecan praline layer will be too hard). Cool 5 minutes in the pans. Then remove and cool completely. In a small bowl, beat 1 3/4 cups whipping cream until soft peaks. Add powdered sugar and vanilla; beat until stiff peaks form, Place one layer of cake on a serving plate, praline side up; spread with 1/2 of the whipped cream mixture. Top with second layer, praline side up, spread with remaining cream mixture (we do not cover the sides). Garnish with whole pecans and chocolate curls. Refrigerate
