a Beautiful, Wonderful, Very Good Day

Today was amazing. So amazing that I didn't even have time to get part three of the little font series up. sorry about that! But I figured that family comes first, always, always, always!

Here are some reasons why today was so great:

-It's General Conference weekend. In my church we have the opportunity to receive inspiration and uplifting messages in a big meeting twice a year. It really is the best thing. I love feeling so great and receiving new hope and knowledge about my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. (and my mom makes some amazing food for the occasion! maybe I'll get her to share some recipes:)

-My extended family happens to all be in town for the weekend and I had a great time with my aunts and cousins today at a little bridal shower we had for my cousin's future wife. it was so fun to see everyone!

-My sisters, my cousin Isaac, and my uncle Kevin and I all had an archery competition out in the back yard. (archery is my favorite sport--I got a bow and arrow a few years ago for Christmas and just can't get enough!)

-It was a glorious day outside--talk about a blue sky. the little photo strip on the left would be me basking in the sun while taking a little drive with my sister. PS: those sunglasses? $1. Oh yeah.

-I spent some great time with my mom, sisters, and my Auntie Pam shopping at a cute little boutique/antique store we have in our little town. Too bad everything was super duper expensive, but it's so fun to go to get some craft inspiration. I have a few new ideas up my sleeve!

See? just an all-in-all great day. Yesterday was my roommate Hayley's 19th birthday. We threw a surprise birthday party for her and it was so  fun! here's a little picture of us celebrating the big day:
Basically, this just might be the best weekend ever.
Make sure to check back on Monday for part 3 of the font series! It'll be a blast.

have a lovelee day (today really was lovelee for me!)

Font Lovin', part 2

I hope you all did your homework and searched for some super great fonts! I must admit, I got a little too into it...dang it all, I already have too many! haha. So are you ready to learn how to install them on your computer? Groovy, because that's what we're learning about today. Notethis tutorial is for  a Windows computer...I'm sorry about that! I'm sure the process is pretty similar on a mac. Try googling "installing fonts on a mac" and I'm sure you'll find something.

step one: once you have downloaded the font, open Windows Explorer and right click on the file. If the file has a .zip ending, Press "extract all" (if not, skip the next step)

step two: when this dialogue box comes up, press extract. easy as pie:)
step three: open the now extracted folder and find the/any files with a .ttf ending. select.
*note if your desired font does not have a .ttf ending, save this font for the next part of the font lovin' series and choose another one you downloaded that does have a .ttf ending. any other ending (.otf, etc) will not work on a windows computer. Don't worry though, we can still use them through an extra step so make sure to check back for part 3 of the series!*

step four: copy the file into c drive/windows/fonts (the font folder found under the "windows" folder)

step five: close out of Windows Explorer and open up some sort of word processor. check to see if your font is there. is it? you're so cool! type away to your heart's delight:)

In the next part of this little series we're going to be talking about what to do if your font file type is NOT a .ttf *gasp!* Don't be discouraged, you can still use the fonts you downloaded, it's just one extra step to make it work on a windows computer. Stay tuned!

have a lovelee day

Font Lovin', part 1

I've talked before about how much I absolutely love fonts. I want to share some font love with all of you by giving you my favorite font sites and doing a little tutorial on downloading and installing the fonts for use on all your computer programs. Today will be part 1 of this little series, where we will talk about some great online font resources.

Would you like to know some great places to download beautiful FREE fonts? cool. I'll tell you:)

this site has a billion free fonts. Some of them are crud, search for the treasures!
this site is one of my favorites. Not as many fonts, but they're all golden.
I'm not as familiar with this site, but it definitely has some greats.

here are a few of my favorite fonts (click on images):
Lobster Free Font Family Fonts Most Downloaded
Quicksand Free Font Family Fonts Most Downloaded
Lane Free Font Family Fonts Most Downloaded
Pacifico Free Font Family Fonts Most Downloaded
my word, if I put them all down, you'd be scrolling down the page all day!

So your homework assignment for tonight? Search these sites (or even google "fun fonts" or "retro fonts" to look for more great sites) for some fonts that make your heart go all aflutter and download them. Tomorrow's lesson will be on installing the fonts you download to use on your computer. Happy Browsing! (it really is a little too much fun for me--haha)

7 Things to Love About Me, part 4

Here's this week's installment of Gentri's 7 questions series. Except I'm starting to not like how I've titled these posts. I promise I'm not self-centered...

funny picture for this week (PLEASE don't get freaked out. haha!) :
okay, that's about a billion funny pictures, but my roommate Erin made this collage of all the funny faces I make. I really had no idea that my face was so expressive until I saw this...

1. What is your favorite color TO WEAR?

Blue, blue, blue! any shade. It's just my favorite color all over the place.

2. You are given the choice between visiting every country and landing on the moon. Which would you choose?

I would want to visit every country. There is so much to learn from each diverse culture and country--life lessons that can't be learned on the moon:) It's actually one of my dreams to visit all the countries that I can before I die.

3. What's your favorite animal and why?

Giraffe. I'm not really sure why, but it's been one top of my list for a long time. It's funny: giraffes are so tall and I'm just so short...maybe we average each other out or something. haha

4. You are forced to do one of the following, which would you choose? Sky dive, scuba dive, or this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4B36Lr0Unp4

scuba dive! I've mentioned before that I'm a little fish, and that remains the truth! I looooove water. You can't keep me out of it!

5. You are given the chance to go back in time. Which era would you visit?

Oh how could I choose just one?? I'd take a little stop to pre-WWI to visit the folks at Downton Abby, then I'd visit the great depression to hear AMAZING music and speeches by FDR and Mrs. Roosevelt (two of my very favorite people!), then I'd take a nice trip to the 40s-50s-60s for some great retro clothes and some more AMAZING music: a little Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Nat King Cole. all the greats:) Basically, I'd start my my trip at the beginning of WWI and go on from there.

6. If you had the power to remove one thing (ie: flies, mosquitos, junk food) from the earth for good- what would it be?

SPIDERS. Oh my cherry pie, they are just the WORST. Talk about a heart attack. My sweet little sister has to kill them for me. I absolutely cannot even look at them. I have to pretend they don't exist. Which is hard, seeing as my room up at my house is in the basement.

7. What is one thing you've learned from Pinterest that made you think "GENIUS"!

ummmm EVERYTHING. the end. haha, here's a few of my favorites:

ps- I have a semi-embarrassing project to share with you guys this weekend. It's embarrassing because it's super...personal? I don't know. It's something that works for me but it might not be your cup of tea. Does that make sense? Oh gosh, I hope you'll like it:)

Delicious Homemade Brownies

Here's a little secret about me: I don't actually cook all that much. However, there is one thing that I definitely do know how to make, and that would be these bad boys:

iPiccy: Loading picture

but really. how many ways can you say "yum!"...I don't know, let's see.

yum
yummy
delicious
scrumptious
delectable
tasty
delightful
decadent
lovely
appetizing
heavenly
G.O.O.D.

put all those together, and you will be able to acurately describe the way these brownies taste. I feel like I'm allowed to brag about these because they are the only thing I can really make...

You want the recipe? Okay!

1/2 C cocoa
1 C butter
1 1/2 C flour
1/2 tsp. salt
4 eggs
2 C sugar
2 tsp. vanilla

Cream butter and sugar. Beat eggs into sugar mixture. Add dry ingredients; mix well. Add vanilla. Back in a greased and floured 9x13 pan at 350 for 20-25 minutes (it usually takes a bit longer at my place...we live up in the mountains)

And there's a frosting recipe that was made for these brownies. A match made in heaven.

1 cube butter, melted
1/3 C cocoa
3 3/4 C powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
4-6 T. milk or water (enough for spreading consistency)

I hope you enjoy them as much as I do. Be sure to let me know if you make them/how they turn out!

Have a lovelee day
-Lee

ps-I didn't put a picture of them all done up because I kind of altered the recipe/shape....to fit my needs for today. But if when I make them again, I'll put one right up!

Brand New Days

Sometimes life gets a little hard, but there's always another day to try again to be a little better: a little kinder, a little sweeter, and a little more patient.  thank heaven for new days.

This is one of my very favorite songs. it is sooo happy and it has gotten me through a couple pretty tough spots. My friend--who also happens to be one of my roommates--Erin also loves this song and she talks about it here.

also...Joshua Radin is really cute. Just putting that out there:)

you shouldn't only live for only for tomorrow, but you also shouldn't dwell on today. One of my very favorite people in the whole world used this quote (or...something to this effect) in a talk he gave this past Saturday:

"by the yard, life is hard, but by an inch it's a cinch!"

Well, I hope you have a lovelee day. And if you don't: I wish you a very happy tomorrow:)

Fancy Flag Bows: a DIY

iPiccy: Loading picture

I've said before that bows are kind of my thing. Guess what--I wasn't kidding. The other day when I was sitting in the Phil rehearsal I looked over at one of the girls in the wind section and she was wearing the cutest bow.  I must admit, I was kind of staring. haha:)  I decided I could probably figure out how to make it, and so this morning I did! And here's the best part: it took about 5 minutes to whip up. Enjoy:

iPiccy: Loading picture

one: Out of felt: cut a rectangle with rounded corners and a small strip of a contrasting color for the middle.

two: pinch the middle of the rectangle together to form the shape of the bow.

three: wrap the small contrasting felt strip around the middle and pin it in place leaving a longer tail in front than in the back.

four: sew or hot glue the strip in place. When this step is done the bow should hold its shape and the strip should be completely secure without you having to hold it.

five: snip the end of the small strip to form the flag and voila! you have a fancy new bow to wear!
I was able to slip a bobby pin through the back of my bow, so it's ready to wear as soon as you finish it.

In other news, you may have noticed that up until this point the "tutorials" button on the side bar has been deactivated. Well, I am making it my personal weekend goal to get that page up and going by the end of the day. Hopefully. *UPDATE: the tutorials page is up and running--go check it out!*

Well, have a lovelee day!

a Well Spent Weekend

Want to know something a little embarrassing? In middle school, I had a room with walls that looked like this:

eeeeek! I'm sure that when I told my mom I wanted to paint my room this ghastly pink color she had to hold back all of her professional-decorator wisdom and paint it anyways, out of love for me. (okay, so it's not ghastly, but I'd say it's pretty close...it's just way too much all over the place.)

well, the years came and went and I moved out to a different room, and with no one living in my old room the pink walls were just about forgotten.

*until* I was kicked out of my room when I moved off to college and given my old room. this room. with the pink walls. yuck.

Well this weekend, my mom and I decided to give it a little tlc and a huuuuuge paint job--we painted the walls a nice baby blue, one of my very favorite colors! And  it's pretty safe--the kind of color that you won't come back to in 7 years and say, "why in the world did we ever choose this?!"

look how happy the walls were to be painted:

we just finished up the painting today (it took so many coats of blue to cover all that pink up). My mom was playing around with the decorations (that's kind of her thing). It still needs some more work, but so far this is what's happening:

and I love it!

Have a lovelee day.

Some Great News!

Last night as I checked my email I was greeted by the most wonderful surprise. Take a little looksie:

iPiccy: Loading picture

I was so happy to get in that there may or may not have been a little crying going on. I'm pretty sure my roommates think I'm bonkers, but hey--this is a big deal to me!

As a side note, Prayers work,  friends! Prayers for comfort, prayers for courage, prayers for strength, prayers for hope. I know that's what got me through this whole process:)

I was also so excited that last night we hit 1.000 views! That seems pretty big to me. As Shaun and Gus would say, "whaaat?!" I even took a picture to prove it:

Are you going to the Hunger Games tonight? I am! I'm pretty excited about it--although I haven't obsessed over it. That kind of thing is saved for Harry Potter:) I saw this and I giggled quite a bit. I'm not going to blow anything, so just take a little looksie:

7 things to love about me, part 3

Hey there! Today's post is part of Gentri's "7 Questions" series

Funny Picture of the Week:

actually, this has been my facebook profile picture since October...I just think it's pretty grand. My roommates and I dressed up as the 3 little girls from despicable me and I was "Agnus":)

1. You're given the choice between a life with love and trials or loneliness and ease. Pick one.

I'd easily choose life with love and trials! I could never be happy if I was on my own, and with love and normal life, trials will happen. So I want somebody by my side to help me get through them:)

2. Would you rather live in Narnia, Hogwarts, Middle Earth, or Neverland?

Man alive. I'm stuck between  Hogwarts and Neverland. I might be the biggest Peter Pan fan ever, but I'd kill to be magic...darn it all why do I have to choose? Both! haha.

3. Think of your dream home... what style is it?

someday I want to live in an antique victorian home and have everything look so retro. that's kind of my thing, if ya' couldn't tell.

4. What's currently your favorite song or album?
oh my, anything Ingrid Michaelson sings. She's my absolute favorite.

5. Who was the last person you hugged?

there are very few people that I hug--I really don't like lots of touchy interaction. But my mom is allowed to hug me whenever she wants, and I'm pretty sure she's the last one I hugged.

6. You have a ticket in your hand, where is it going to take you?

VIENNA, AUSTRIA!

7. Who is one blogger you KNOW you'd be BFF's with in real life?

Oh dear, I'm afraid I don't know too many...I really like Bri and Lauren's style, so I'll go with that--and I already know that I love Gentri! haha. (ps-yes, it's a different Lauren. But she likes just about everything I do. Crazy stuff, man!)

have a lovelee day!

ps- sorry about yesterday! I got home super late and then I was doing homework into the wee hours of the night.

Sisters, Sisters

Do you want to know something? I love my family. a LOT. my sisters and I are the best of friends, and I want to dedicate today's post to tell you 5 reasons why I love them so very much:

Reason #1: We play games like "name that Harry Potter spell" where we have to ask yes or no questions until we can name the spell. Yeah, we're cool like that.

Reason #2: we make each other laugh so hard. This past week my sister Briana and her husband came down and I forgot how stinking funny they are/we are. Gee wiz, I must have burned a billion calories from laughing so hard. But then I gained them right back at the baby shower. Eh--life goes on:)

this is one of my very favorite pictures of us. I know it's a cruddy quality photo-I took a picture of the computer screen with my phone. bad news. anyways, I think it's hilarious. look how hard I'm laughing (if you don't recognize me (*sniff*) I'm on the left)

Reason #3: well, this is more of a fun fact than a reason. We have always called ourselves the "little women" family. The characters in the book match us a little too well. (but let's hope that even though I'm the "Beth" of the family I don't die any time soon!). Also, our dad was in the Air Force (the dad in the book was fighting in the army) and our mom is just the sweetest thing around town. But really.

I l-o-v-e this picture of us.
L to R Rachel (the baby), me( 3rd child), Briana (2nd child), Shaunelle (1st Born)

Reason #4: Well, just look at the cool parents I have:

my dad MADE that cabin. what! And this is my mom and dad in Disneyland (the BEST place in the world), doin' their thaaaang.

Reason #5: I can love them forever and ever and ever! Death is not the end of my family, which is something that I am so SO grateful for:)

I am a very lucky girl.

Have a lovelee day--and tell someone in your family that you love them!

My New Favorite Things

the baby shower today was a smashing success! Everyone worked so hard and I think it really paid off. When we get the pictures uploaded to the computer I'll be sure to put them up because the party really was so cute. Right now I think we all just want to take a looooooooong nap.

I saw this picture today and I squealed. SO cute.

Couple in Penn Station sharing a farewell kiss before he ships off to war during WWII. Photograph taken by Alfred Eisenstaedt (1943).
I think I want to look that glamorous when I kiss someone:)

And I want to look this cute for spring:
Pinned Image
Audrey Hepburn really is one of my favorite role models/heroes. She's just so classy!

In other news, I've decided that graphic design/word art is one of my new very favorite things--and my recent pins on pinterest have reflected that! haha. Seeing beautiful prints just fills a little part of my soul.

one of my new favorite word artists is Katie Daisy. Check out her work:
seriously--go check out her site. It's a treasure trove of springy, wonderful, beautiful paintings.

Have a lovelee day!

Getting Ready for the Baby Shower

My beautiful sister Briana's baby shower is tomorrow and us Esplin girls are going a little over the top with the decorations and preparations. My sister Shaunelle is the mastermind and the rest of us are her humble servants (sometimes she thinks she's a queen....and you think I'm joking.)

Briana is having a little boy and the theme of the shower is "airplanes and moustaches"...but mostly moustaches. haha. we're pretty excited about how everything is turning out. I'll be sure to post pictures because so far it's looking crazy cool. (I think I'm allowed to boast about this for two reasons: 1-most of the ideas weren't mine and 2-it's the first baby in the family, so we're all really really excited)

Here's some photos of us getting all ready for the big day:

Knitted Bows: a diy

hello folks! have you all been practicing your knitting? I hope so--because the new diy I promised is here!

today we're making this:

are you ready for this? This is probably the easiest knitting project in history. If you can knit regular stitches, you CAN do this, I promise. It's so simple, and I always get buckets of compliments when I wear my little bows. (bows are kind of my thing...)

one: cast on 6, knit until the length is double of the length you desire

two: cast off. I then took another piece of yarn and connected the two ends and knotted it securely.

three: take another piece of yarn and wrap it around the middle a bunch of times to form the bow shape. be sure to knot it securely!

four: voila! a knitted bow! now make one in every color--I did! :) I just slipped a bobby pin through the back and it was ready to wear.

pretty easy, right? I wish you all the best!

Have a lovelee day
