Fun Project + Recipe

I did a super fun and easy project the other day. I saw the idea from this website (which is one of my favorties, by the way!) I think it was the perfect craft for me--because it was all about doodling! sorry the photos aren't better--the nice camera is up in Idaho at the moment. (Where I'm headed off to in about an hour). One of my sets has a bunch of semi circle swirls and the other [my favorite] says on the mug: "you're the bee's knees" and then on the plate "and the cat's meow".

I got the set at the Dollar Store. I know, right?! A $2 craft + a sharpie + an oven. Gotta love that!

that craft was so fast and easy that while the oven was still on from setting my dishes, I whipped up some delicious cake mix cookies. Why not, you know?

have a lovelee day!

ps: to the giveaway winners--I had excellent intentions of shipping off your goodies by today, but alas, that probably won't happen until I get back in a week. Sorry about that! :)

Happy Songs

Bonjour, mes amis!

last night my good friend Alyssa and I made a list of all the songs that made us happy.

We're kind of into the chill/super happy music.

Here's a bit of our list:

-anything Ingrid Michaelson. Because she's the queen of chill. Here's one of my favorite songs of hers (although it's pretty hard to choose)
okay, just one more? :)

-Ben Harper. We jammed to this one last night:

-Kinna Grannis--we've only really heard "Mr. Sun", but we're lovin' it! Talk about a happy song.

-Joshua Radin, especially "Brand New Day" and "Friend Like You"

-Mindy Gledhill: I LOVE "I do adore" and "Hourglass"

I want to know what songs and artists you're into these days--I'm going on quite a road trip tomorrow morning and so I want to have some tunes to listen to! Leave a comment with your favortite artist/song/etc. I will love you forever!

have a lovelee day

7 Questions--15

Funny Picture of the Week:
my friends and I hiked the "Y" yesterday. Oh my cow. That was death. Why is this a funny picture, Because it was hard for me to put that smile up on my face. haha!

 1. If you could be any princess- which would you be and why?
I really liked Belle growing up--and so that's always been "my princess". My sisters and I kind of fight over her. But I think I'm the most like her because I have curly hair AND brownish/golden eyes. AND my favorite color is blue. AND I love to read. AND I think the beast is cute. Need I go on?:)

 2. Do you have any odd habits? (do things in order, words that you say too often, etc)
my whole life is an odd habit...I eat my pizza backwards, if that counts. I also use "your face" as a comeback way too much. I'm trying to kick that one.

 3. What's your "go to" outfit?
Well, during the summer, I wear a swimsuit. Period. (I work at the pool every day, so it's basically all I wear). I wake up, put on my swimsuit, come home, put on my pjs. Repeat.

 4. Do you have any siblings? What are their genders, ages, order of age, names, etc?
I have 3 beautiful sisters:
Shaunelle, 26
Briana, 23
(me), 19.5
Rachel, 15

and I have a brother in law, Eric. He's super cool. And married to Briana

 5. What's your favorite precious stone?
Well, Diamonds are a girl's best friend. Haha, only joking. I really, really like pearls. They're pretty much the only jewlery I'll wear.

6. If you had a check in your hand for 1 million dollars, what would you do with it?
Pay for college, take my dream vacation to Austria/Vienna, and then live in Disneyland!!

 7. What do you love most about yourself- physically
This might sound a bit crazy, but I really, really like my freckles. Ask anyone who knows me. My favorite freckle (yes, I have one) resides on my right palm. Not everybody can say that, now can they?!I decided a while ago that my husband has to have a freckle on his right palm and then when we hold hands it'll be magic, or something:)

Sisters, Sisters

On Sunday afternoon my little sister and I did a fun little photo shoot.

Because sisters are good for things like that.

we were inspired by the women of WWII, and thought we'd share our patriotism with all of you. ('tis the season!) The hat is actually my daddy's from his airforce days:

isn't she stunning?? and this is just the tip of the iceburg, folks.

Even though I was the one taking the pictures, she snapped this one of yours truly right at the end:

all in all, It was a pretty grand day. Obviously this was too fun to not let it happen again.

I Dreamed a Dream

Here's the DL, guys. My laptop is a little outdated.  But hey, it does the job. I got it as a high school graduation gift from my wonderful sister Shaunelle who had just gotten a new laptop. And don't get me wrong: I appreciate it so much. You can't argue with free, right? :) Well, I decided that since a new laptop is nowhere in my "starving college student" budget, I'd give it a little face lift. This is kind of what I'm thinking:

they even decorated the internet card with a "quill/ink pot"! (yes....my computer has one...)

I think it'll be a great daddy-daughter project, don't you?

well, I'm off to go antiquing with my marmie. Wish us luck!

just a lil' nonsense

I saw this quote today and I nearly died. I'm definitely making it my motto. Nonsense is my absolute favorite. I created a little word art for you guys:
Roald Dahl is pure magic. Where would this world be without Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, James and the Giant Peach, or the BFG? Nowhere, I think!

Fancy Party Hat Tutorial

Hello friends! If you remember this post I shared a while ago, I made a little party hat. I've been meaning to do a tutorial. I decided to make one for my nephew (who will be born in less than a week) even though he won't be able to wear it for a few years:)

here's what it looked like:
super girly. I decided to make a more "manly one". Is there such a thing as a manly party hat? who knows. Haha. So if you want a girly one, follow the same steps but with girly colors/pictures.

the first thing you need to do is get yourself a nice, standard size party hat to decorate.

I covered all of mine with brown craft paper. A 1' square segment was the PERFECT size. I used the lef over pieces for decoration in later steps. once you've got it all covered, trim the excess to make it a perfect fit.

I added a piece of ribbon to cover the seam in the back (it matches the ribbon I used for the chin straps later on)

I cut out some semi circles and glittered the edges. Then I hot glued them around the base.

I made a pinwheel background and then cut out a circle using the excess craft paper.

I found a SUPER cute clown boy here and glued it to the circles.

I made a pom pom out of paper shreds and glued it to the top

then cut two ribbons for the new chin fastener

and of course, added a little tag:

 and voila!

and that's that.

7 Questions--14

Funny Picture of the Week:
I LOVE this picture of my and my little sister, Rachel. We love to make movies together and this is our "productions company" picture. haha! I think it shows our personalities pretty well.

1. What do you do when you're sick? (Do you act like a baby? Tough it out? Have any weird cravings? Cry?)

When I'm sick, it's one of the few times that I can nap. I also get REALLY REALLY weird dreams--I think God gives them to me because laughter is the best medicine:)

2. What do you do to find motivation when you feel you've lost it?
Pray! prayer is the best tool in the world. I also ask my dear marmie for advice because she's simply the BEST.

3. Do you wish time away or do you savor every moment?
frankly, it depends. If I'm at work/school/in a boring predicament, I wish time would speed up. But I love my life and try to make the most of every moment:)

4. If you could be any mythological creature, what would you be, and why?
a wizard. Actually, does that count? I mean, they're mythological right? (or ARE they?!?!)

5. What is your current biggest weakness and are you working on fixing it?One of my life long weaknesses has been patience--I try so hard, but sometimes I explode inside. I do my best not to let it show, but that's not too healthy either, is it? :)

6. How do you greet someone when meeting them for the first time?I'm not very good at introductions...but if someone says hey to me, I try to strike up a conversation.

7. How do you grocery shop? (Do you write up a list? Go in with no idea what you're looking for? Have meal plans? Bring your own shopping bags?)
I try writing a list, but then I end up doodling all over it and then when I get to the store I see all the great things they have--and it all ends up in my cart. haha:)

do you know what you should do right now? enter in the current "how lovelee" giveaway!

Let them Eat Cake -- recipe

Every year on dad's birthday and father's day my dad always chooses the yummiest cake for my mom to bake up. and we are all SO glad he does. I mean just look:
yummy yummy yummy, I've got love in my tummy.
want the recipe?
oh, okay....  :)
Cake:

1/2 c. Butter
1/4 c. Whipping cream
1 C\c. Firmly packaged light brown sugar
3/4 c. pecans, coarsely chopped
1 pkg. devil's food cake mix with pudding
1 1/4 c. water
1/3 c. oil
3 eggs

Topping:
1 3/4 c. whipping cream
1/4 c. powdered sugar
1/4 tsp. vanilla
whole pecans, for garnish
chocolate curls, for garnish.

Preheat oven to 325. In a small heavy saucepan, combine butter, 1/4 c whipping cream and brown sugar. Cook over low heat just until the butter melts, stirring occasionally. Pour into two round cake pans; sprinkle evenly with chopped pecans. In a large bowl, combine cake mix, water, oil and eggs and low speed until moistened. Then beat 2 minutes at highest speed. Carefully spoon batter over pecan mixture. Back at 325 for 35 to 40 minutes (do not over bake or the pecan praline layer will be too hard). Cool 5 minutes in the pans. Then remove and cool completely. In a small bowl, beat 1 3/4 cups whipping cream until soft peaks. Add powdered sugar and vanilla; beat until stiff peaks form, Place one layer of cake on a serving plate, praline side up; spread with 1/2 of the whipped cream mixture. Top with second layer, praline side up, spread with remaining cream mixture (we do not cover the sides). Garnish with whole pecans and chocolate curls. Refrigerate

Don't worry if it falls apart when you're cutting it--this is normal:)

don't forget to sign up for the giveaway! there are several ways to enter every day--see the entry form on the side and/or go to this post.

have a lovelee day--and as little Miss Antoinette would say:
"Let them eat cake!"

Happy Father's Day!

I'm going to let you all in on my father's day present secret this year.

I do this in full confidence that he won't read this before tomorrow. just...cross your fingers!

so before I share photos of my father's day craft this year, I wanted to preface it by telling you about the AMAZING cabin my dad has been building for us (all by himself!) for the past couple of years. Talk about a genius. Well, it's about time to name to place, and we decided it had to have something to do with pigs. because my daddy LOVES pigs. Last father's day he got a hogs head. I know, right? Back in his airforce days his plane was nicknamed the "warthog"--needless to say, we've been collecting flying pigs throughout the ages. He decided to name it "the Hawg Lodge". (I think the "hawg" spelling comes from his plane? maybe?)

alright. Enough back story. Here's what I made him!
a set of 3 hand towels for the cabin! I designed the logo on the computer and then used this process to transfer the image to the towel.

I wrapped it all up
and put it on his "shrine", by his other gifts:)

What did you do for your dad this year?

I'll be posting the giveaway widget-thingy late Sunday night so that you guys can start entering on Monday.

have a lovelee day!
